no man's land

13 july - 20 august

There is an intensity of focus central to Madill’s paintings. Madill turns us, the viewers, into explorers in this land by presenting a trajectory of allegorical, ethereal like figures, and objects set in landscapes laden with meaning and mystique. A hidden life surfaces and further meanings assume a more powerful significance as we look deeper. The size of the figures, the objects and the panoramic view demand we get up close and intimate with the narrative. Their presence inside these landscapes is palpable. As a consequence the images connect the viewer with an emotional undercurrent which relates them to their own present and past. Simultaneously we are drawn into these painted worlds and worlds of our own.
